Description

The 1957 Triumph TR3 featured here is finished in the stunning color
combination of Powder Blue over a two-tone grey interior and black folding convertible
top with matching black side curtains. This example reputedly came out of Texas and
has remained with the same, long-term owner, since the summer of 1998. A long-time
member of the St. Louis Triumph Owners Association (SLTOA), the owner subjected
the car to a few years of seasonal driving for club events, before deciding to perform a
full restoration of the TR3 in 2004. The very hands-on owner commenced the
restoration by performing a full teardown of the vehicle and had the body and frame
chemically dipped to remove all rust. Paint and bodywork were then performed by local
specialist John Mangles, better known as “The MG Doctor” and the frame was sprayed
with a rust-proof coating. Reassembly started with a new set of hydraulics, while the
front calipers were professionally rebuilt. A Triumph Over Drive transmission was
sourced, rebuilt, and installed, while the engine was detailed and treated to new seals,
timing chain and a new clutch. The SU carburetors were fully rebuilt by JTs
Carburetors of Oklahoma. The final assembly consisted of a full, new interior kit
sourced through The Roadster Factory, a new wiring harness, new bumpers and badges
while the windshield frame and other original interior pieces were re-chrome plated.
The enthusiast-owner managed restoration took 8 years to complete and since that
time has been shown and driven in local Triumph club-level events.

Today the car presents extremely well for a decade old restoration with only minimal
wear noticeable upon thorough inspection. The TR3 runs and drives extremely well and
fully sorted for occasional and spirited use. When IT'S ALIVE! aske the consignor why
he is parting ways with the Triumph he stated: “It's too nice to drive, I would rather
take the [TR]-6 out for a spin.” IT'S ALIVE is honored to represent this stunning TR3 on behalf of the long-term owner and restorer. If you are the next caretaker of this classic then give us a call at 314-710-6600 or email us at Sales@ItsAliveAuto.com.
