Description

IT'S ALIVE! AUTOMOTIVE is proud to present this 1969 Volkswagen Karmann-Ghia Convertible finished in Signal Orange (L20E) over a two-tone khaki brown interior with a canvas beige, folding convertible top. This example is offered on behalf of the owner, a long-time friend of IT'S ALIVE! owner Jeff Homsher, who oversaw a restoration that was completed in 2021. During the restoration the interior was refreshed with new seat coverings and carpet in period correct colors. The exterior was refreshed with new bright work while a respray was performed in this Ghia's original shade of Signal Orange which is complimented by a new beige folding convertible top. Mechanically the Karmann-Ghia received new brakes upfront while in the back sits an upgraded 1600cc “dual-port” built by a VW specialist shop. Continental Pro Contact tires are mounted to the Porsche Fuchs-style alloy wheels on all four corners, ensuring this classic VW rolls in style and comfort! Recently our team of in-house specialists renewed the fuel system of the Karmann-Ghia by installing a new fuel tank, fuel lines and filters.

1969 is a desirable year for the Karmann-Ghia as they were the first to feature Independent Rear Suspension (IRS). They were also the last model year to feature the small, non-wrap around, turn signal lenses. In convertible form, midway through 1969 production VW replaced the plastic rear window with a hinged glass unit which must be lowered prior to lowering the convertible top. The design presents the opportunity to enjoy the convertible with the front and rear windows down while the top is up, reminiscent of a Porsche 911/912 soft-window Targa. One could say 1969 was the pinnacle year for Ghia production, not surprising that it was also the year that legendary industrial designer W. Dorwin Teage selected Volkswagen Karmann-Ghia's one of the world's most “beautifully designed” products.
